Sabayon- Has Gentoo met its demise?

Sabayon isn't really a beginners distribution but has much to offer. Geared more toward those using Arch, Gentoo, or LFS. Sabayon offers binary package installation as well as support for Gentoo's portage. Use caution when mixing and NEVER "emerge world".
The ability to mix Gentoo's portage with Sabayon's Entropy allows you to modify packages to your heart's content. Entropy does not allow you to set "USE" flags like Gentoo which can be a drawback if you want a package built to your own specs. Being a source based distribution though allows you to obtain the package source yourself and find the package in Portage and set whatever "USE" flags you like. Again though, you do want to be cautious doing that especially if a package has a number of dependencies.
All said, Sabayon has a number of great features that make it a very worthwhile distribution for the desktop. A large number of popular packages are available in binary format lending to a quick install.
