[art] HDD brand consensus

I am having some issues with a 30GB Maxtor HDD, which, I am sure, is
going to fail real soon (occasional metallic screech!)  Having assembled
thousands of these in cleanroom conditions at the Colorado Springs DEC
RAID facility, ten years ago; I thought I might just open it up an
squirt a little 3-1 in there...what'ya think...hold on...I'm starting to
sound like the Technobuddy...

Kidding aside, I thought I would canvass the group about HDD brands they
are using.  In my retail experience I've had people run the gambit of "I
wouldn't touch Maxtor with a ten foot pole" to ...well you get the
idea.  I've been buying them because they always end up on sale and
doesn't that tell you something.

I did end up with a Seagate 1GB at a yard sale and I'm impressed that
something of that vintage is still running, plus, for a half-height
drive its more like a quarter-height side profile.

An earlier Eug-LUG discussion about RAM memory got me started in
investigating quality issues and I got a lot out of that.
